Why Queers Without Borders and Blog?
Queers Without Borders (QWB) was formed a few years ago in response to several anti-war straights that proclaimed, to a few of us queers at a Hartford march: “I thought all you “gays” were only concerned with marriage?” Clearly we were taken aback, though not totally shocked by this view, especially here in Connecticut. It seems that any semblance of a Queer Left, let alone Queer anti-racist, anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, anarchical presence is virtually non-existent. Even the semi-progressive LGBT organizations such as the CT Coalition for LGBT Civil Rights slowly dissolved into a single hegemonic LGBT organization. There was a transient group called Radical Feminist Queers though alas that group dissolved during its early formation. And so, in these days of increasing LGBT assimilation within a growing capitalistic, “family oriented”, anti-identity, imperialistic, classist and racist society where Queer has become as stigmatized as Liberal, we proudly proclaim and reclaim our Connecticut Queer heritage and presence through Queers Without Borders. And Without Borders is exactly what we mean. Queers and our issues “cross” all virtual and physical borders be they Religious, Racial, Geographical, Gender, Physical, Social, Class.
And as part of this proud reclaiming of Queer Identity we have created a Queer Voices blog that is open to all voices be they queer or allies! We invite each and every one of you to offer dialogue, views, challenges, issues, queer history, queer shiroes and other discussions so that the Queer Voices of Connecticut can be heard above the din of assimilation and reclaim our voices, our spirits, our pride!
