Protest Against HRC

Join CT TransAdvocacy and Queers Without Borders at UCONN Storrs on Dec 1 to reveal the REAL TRUTH About HRC, ENDA and Trans Exclusion…

fuck hrcOn Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 2 - 5 PM there is to be a Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) Town Hall / Meet Congressman Joe Courtney and sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) at UCONN Storrs Thomas J. Dodd Center. The Connecticut TransAdvocacy Coalition strongly opposes the prominent role HRC has taken in this event given HRC’s history of exclusionary actions to the Transgender, Gender non-conforming and Queer communities and peoples! HRC has shown that political expediency trumps the collective wisdom and desire of over 300 Major National and Statewide TLGB/Queer organizations regarding Gender Identity/Expression inclusion within ENDA.

CT TransAdvocacy supports the students and UCONN organizations in its efforts to engage dialogue around the recent ENDA debate and Inclusion of Gender Identity and Expression. However, CT TransAdvocacy and many of its ally organizations feel it is UNACCEPTABLE that HRC take a prominent role, rather than co-sponsoring with NGLTF and United ENDA. The timing and extensive hands-on control of this event by HRC is UNACCEPTABLE and an INSULT to the Transgender, Gender non-conforming and Queer communities and organizations of Connecticut and Nationally.

In response, CT TransAdvocacy and supporting organizations will be holding a peaceful Protest outside the event. This protest will involve leafleting those attending the Event with the Real Truth behind HRC and Trans Exclusion, as well as engage in an open dialogue with those desiring to conduct a People’s Panel on ENDA and Inclusiveness.

We urge you to join us this Saturday at 1:30 PM outside the UCONN Storrs Thomas J. Dodd Center, 405 Babbidge Road.
Please contact us at hrc_watch@transadvocacy.org if you are interested in helping to organize this event or have any questions or concerns.

Do note that this action is in conjunction with similar protests by the Trans, Gender non-conforming and Queer communities against HRC events in major cities such as NYC and Chicago. Additionally, the only Transgender members of the Human Rights Campaign Business Council, Donna Rose and Jamison Green, announced their resignations on Tuesday, November 27 in response to recent HRC policy decisions regarding ENDA. Clearly this action by CT TransAdvocacy is one of many by our community and its allies telling HRC that EXCLUSIONARY and UNEQUAL TREATMENT will not be tolerated in 2007!
Please join us to assure that the UCONN Students hear and understand our outrage and anger at HRC!
