Press conference & peaceful protest against sexual harassment on Public Sidewalk outside Outback Steakhouse, North Haven
Friday January 4, 7 p.m. (Directions Below)
Two female workers came to Unidad Latina en Accion because their kitchen manager at the North Haven Outback had repeatedly harassed them verbally and physically. After they complained to their supervisors, one was fired and one resigned. They sent their complaints to the Outback corporation in Tampa, Florida, but their complaints have not been addressed. Unidad Latina en Accion and women’s rights activists have picketed outside Outback Steakhouse for three weeks. Outback has done one thing to repond — they have tried to scare us from raising public awareness. At the first picket, we entered the restaurant to ask for a meeting with the management. Although we left the restaurant when asked to leave, they singled out one protester and charged her with trespassing. At the second and third pickets, North Haven police wrote down the names and addresses of protesters — but they could not tell us of any laws that we were breaking. Please join us to say: We will not be silent as long as sexual harassment is allowed at Outback!
Directions: From New Haven, take Rt. 91 N to Exit 12 and turn right. Outback is on the left-hand side.
Carpool: Rides leave from New Haven People’s Center (37 Howe St.) — meet us there at 6 p.m.
