I was just wondering where you got your information about Ringling Bros? Have you travelled with the circus?
Take care,

A good article to read is “Animals are not ours for entertainment.” at http://www.circuses.com/. Lots of info on Ringling on this site. See a video and read first hand about Tim Frisco who instructs would-be trainers on how to train an elephant. Another good place to look is click on google, type in circus protest click on any picture and you will find a host of info. I don’t think treating animals this way is being good stewarts of the planet and all that its holds.
Logan you can also watch these videos on how the circus tortures animals.

Agreed that whips, chains and beatings are best reserved for those humans who enjoy such things! ; )
Most circuses take very good care of their animals. Beating an animal to teach them a trick doesn’t really makes sense. If an animal does a trick and you beat it, you’ve actually taught the animal not to do the trick because it will associate the the trick with pain and will not do it. If you beat an animal because it doesn’t do a trick it still doesn’t teach the animal to do the trick. The animal still doesn’t know what it didn’t do. And then that teaches the animal to be generally afraid/have hatred towards the trainer because they associate the trainer with with pain which in effect would prevent them from being able to work together in the future.
Are you aware of any of the studies that have been done that have shown that circus animald don’t suffer and they are acutally healthier and live longer then zoos animals? Or that they actually enjoy performing?

“Beating an animal to teach them a trick doesn’t really makes sense.”
Though undoubtedly true, this sentence is irrelevant to the discussion. It would be as if you responded to a post in which someone alleged that workers for Wal-Mart were being mistreated by saying “Workers are more productive if you treat them well, so why would an employer mistreat workers?”
When it comes to human cruelty, sometimes the most certain answer to the question “Why would they do that?” is “Because they can get away with it.”
You end with the questions “Are you aware of any of the studies that have been done that have shown that circus animald don’t suffer and they are acutally healthier and live longer then zoos animals? Or that they actually enjoy performing?”
Since you are the one asserting tht circus animals are not being mistreated, I think the burden is on you to identify the studies that you claim exist. (Though I’m very curious how one determines scientifically that animals “enjoy performing.”) Why not post cites to these studies?
Yesterday at the Kentucky derby a beautiful horse named Eight Belles fell and broke both ankles during the race. Eight Belles was euthanized by injection on the track. Dr. Larry Bramlage, the Derby’s on call vet, said the filly’s injuries were too severe to even attempt to move her off the track.
She died while “entertaining” the 157,770 people who came to watch the horses run. Of course its not only for some people’s “enjoyment and entertainment” that these horses are made to run but big money is made. Big Brown who won the race earned $1,451,800 for the win and boosted his earnings to $2,114,500 for the owners. …..from Yahoo Sports.
Sad isn’t it. Everyone cheered, was entertained, made some money and one beautiful horse died.
Here are a few of the links to the studies that you requested.
Here are some links you might find of interest to help prove my viewpoint.
