Special Session to Complete Unfinished business. Paid Sick Days- MUST- be on the schedule!

This was received by e-mail from Jon Green, Director of Working Families Party.

You might’ve seen it in the news. The legislative session came to a close at midnight, and despite hundreds of citizen lobby visits and thousands of phone calls and even more emails to legislators, the House never brought the Paid Sick Days bill to a vote.

But because of all your support, it’s not over. We’re pushing into over-time.

Yesterday, the leaders of the House and Senate began planning for a special session to complete unfinished business. And we have a chance to get the Paid Sick Days bill on the schedule for the special session, if we act now.

We need your help to bring Paid Sick Days back to life. Click here to email the House and Senate leadership and DEMAND they put Paid Sick Days on the agenda for the special session.

We’ve got to remind them: Paid Sick Days isn’t some game to score political points - it’s really an important issue that affects hundreds of thousands of people’s lives.

When a kid has to go to school sick because his parents can’t afford the day off to take care of him - and that kid goes to school, can’t concentrate, spreads a cold around to his classmates or to his teacher, and ends up getting an infection because he didn’t get the proper care - well, that’s just unacceptable. And it’s unacceptable not to do anything about.

We all really do deserve a big pat on the back. In the Stamford Advocate today, State Representative Chris Perone said that of all the pieces of legislation up for consideration this year, the paid sick days proposal garnered the greatest response from constituents.

And that’s because we all understand what the legislature seems to have forgotten: Paid Sick Days is an important issue whose time has come, and it’s just the right thing to do.

Don’t forget to send the House and Senate leadership an email right now to tell them to put Paid Sick Days on the schedule for the special session

PS. Throughout the day yesterday, a number of State Reps came to me to personally to tell me about the enormous volume of email they were getting from supporters of Paid Sick Days. People were literally astonished.
