It is reported in a book to be released next week that a CIA analyst warned the Bush Administration in 2002 that a third of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay Cuba, might have been imprisoned by mistake, but White House officials ignored the finding. Instead the book says that officials insisted that all detainees were “enemy combatants” and according to David Addington Cheney’s staff director, “The president has determined that they are ALL enemy combatants. Dick Cheney shrugged off the report and quashed proposals for a review of the cases. The book, The Dark Side, is written by Jane Mayer and recounts exchanges by Cheney and his advisers as they pushed for wiretapping, detention and interrogation of suspected terrorists.
