NO To A Constitutional Convention in Connecticut

Vote NO! Protect our Constitution. 

Do you know that our anti-gay opponents recently launched a major campaignto amend the Connecticut Constitution to exclude same-sex couples from marriage? In November, a question on the ballot will ask whether Connecticut should hold a Constitutional Convention to amend our Constitution. Take the Pledge to VOTE NO on amending our Constitution.

Sign the Vote NO Pledge

The Connecticut Constitution has a long and proud history, earning our state the nickname, The Constitution State. Our Constitution—like all Constitutions—is meant to provide order, stability, and balance in government. This foundational document, which has served our state so well, is not meant to address the hot issues of the day. Calling a Constitutional Convention is an expensive and unnecessary process with uncertain outcomes. We, the undersigned, support our Constitution and oppose the calling of a Constitutional Convention.

This action if passed could have ramifications far beyond those in the GLBT Community who wish to be married. I see it as the LGBT/Queer Community is under attack. Stonewall told me to STAND UP AND FIGHT BACK.

The Associated Press article, “Fighting A Ballot Question: Pricey Effort Waged Against Direct Initiative,” appears today in many of Connecticut ’s major daily newspapers, radio, and TV news outlets. 
 
The Family Institute is leading the VOTE YES charge. They say that this is about democracy, but we know it is not democratic to let the majority vote on the rights of the minority. They say this is about change, but we know it is not real change…it is politics as usual that will result in a convention of special interests.
