Resistance, Repression and the Republican Convention
A Multimedia Presentation and Discussion,
Part of the Spotlight on Anarchism Series of Events
Tuesday October 28th 7:00 PM
East Hartford Public Library, Downstairs Meeting Room
840 Main St., East Hartford
My name is Matt, and I spent 2 weeks in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where I prepared for, took part in and recovered from the protests against the Republican National Convention. I was there as an antiwar activist, a student organizer, a human rights advocate, as well as one of those dreaded anarchists.
This multimedia presentation will include discussion on the importance of mass militant protest and direct action, as a necessary political force for change; a critique of the actions that occurred from a social anarchist perspective, which values formal social/political organization and revolutionary strategy; and the repression we were subjected to during the RNC, including the 8 members of the RNC Welcoming Committee anarchist group who are being charged with Conspiracy to Riot in Furtherance of Terrorism, under the Minnesota Patriot Act.
The workshop will include video footage and photos, as well as plenty of time for open discussion. This event is part of the “Spotlight on Anarchism” series; see http://www.myspace.com/spotlightonanarchism
Matt is a member of Students for a Democratic Society - newsds.org.
