Queers and Allies before you vote for any CT. Green, Consider this.
NO ALLIANCE WITH RIGHT WING BIGOTS!!
Riding by the house today of a person that belongs to the Green Party or a fellow traveler of that party I noticed a sign on his lawn to VOTE YES on the question, “Shall there be a Constitutional Convention to amend or revise the Constitution of the State?” Needless to say I was shocked because I always thought this man was a okay person, he hangs around with those who are considered to be hip intellectuals and with a progressive city council person, attends anti-war rallies, and so on and so on. So maybe its the neighbors sign that got placed in his yard by mistake I say to myself. If I am wrong here correct me. But Please Come on Greens its only fair to let a good number of us who would perhaps vote for you know where you stand. Are you just one more Con Con man?
I did a little research and found this on Ballotpedia.org
The support for holding a convention includes those interested in bringing the process of initiative & referendum, to the state, as well as a coalition of taxpayer groups. A group, the Connecticut Constitution Convention Campaign, has formed to encourage people to vote “yes” on Election Day. Their broader goal is to add initiative & referendum rights to the Connecticut Constitution.
Supporters include:
- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell has also endorsed a “yes” vote on the convention call, primarily for the purpose of obtaining initiative & referendum.
- The Family Institute of Connecticut.
- National Taxpayers Union
- Federation of Connecticut Taxpayer Organizations
- In the wake of the Connecticut Supreme Court’s decision in Kerrigan & Mock v. Connecticut Dept. of Public Health on October 10, the Catholic Conference in Connecticut endorsed a “yes” vote on Question 1.
- The Green Party of Connecticut.
Birds of a feather flock together? Can some Green tell me that this is wrong and they do not support the CON CON?
Hate to do this to some nice people but dear, I’m a queer, and you are messing with my life. I certainly will inform every voter I know both queer and our allies. I had a problem with the Connecticut Greens running in all districts of the state anyway as they are all white men which hardly represent the new day no matter what they say or think they believe.

To me, this is at the core of what I disagree with when it comes to the Greens; that is, they're not even really that progressive besides their platform. Their fundamental belief is that bourgeois democracy can ultimately save us all if only we were to all devote ourselves to it, which is of course completely unrealistic. So I imagine–and I await clarification from the Greens–that when they support something like the Con Con, they're following the piper that plays the fantastical tune of the United States Empire somehow morphing into a participatory democratic government, and in their ideological lexicon, a referendum is inherently good and can do no wrong. I, on the other hand, could be wrong and I anxiously await an explanation from the Greens.
The ballotpedia article did list the CT Green Party as an endorser of the call for a constitutional convention, but the only citation it includes is a Courant article from 9/29/08 that quoted Mike DeRosa - a leader of the CT Greens - speaking favorably about the call. The article actually says that the CT Greens (at least as of that date) had NOT endorsed, though it goes on to say that DeRosa indicated he wanted his party to "take a look" at the idea of supporting the constitutional convention.
I haven't seen any indication that such a "look" has taken place and there are no press releases or other statements on their website that reflect support for the constitutional convention.
So then we await word from Mike De Rosa on this question. Also we who live in Hartford would like a word or two from Steve Fouriner who is running in the first district.
I would have to say if it isn't true then it is the Greens job to correct Ballotpedia and be removed from the listing. I think this falls under, "this isn't aren't they a bunch of nice guys, lets help out a few in the middle, but they are in alliance with the right wing of CT. who would like nothing more than to do my people in." I don't care how nice they are, or who they march with or are supported by, if this is the case they are my enemy!
FLUSH them out of the bushes!! Let us hear their stand. Queers and Allies know theirs. Thanks Richard for keeping your eyes open. These are dangerous times and one has to be on their guard as that old wheel spins around and there's no telling who it is naming. Could be a start of something big and nasty. Collaboration with the right on any issue is unacceptable.

So we heard from Mike De Rosa and this is what he said. "The Green Party of Ct. has not taken an offical position on the Constitutional Convention question. Our individual members have different opinions about this. I know for a fact that Steve Fouriner is opposed to voting yes on the Constitutional Convention question because he has told me that. That is, he wants to vote NO."
Mike DeRosa, CT Green Party Chairman, was interviewed on Channel 30's CT Newsmakers which aired today. He said the Greens do not have a position on the Con Con but that he personally supports ballot initiatives and referendums.
It is astonishing to me that Mr. DeRosa could ally himself with the extreme right-wing of the Republican Party that is behind the Big Con Con Campaign.
Seems Mike's interview doesn't jive with his response to Richard–not that we should expect anything else from politicians, but the Greens at least pretend to be progressive….
I'm sorry - but not surprised - to hear this. I think there are a lot of folks in the Green Party who tend to fetishize electoral politics and the ballot box as the ultimate expression of democracy in a way that legitimizes the capitalist system.
It does bring up an uncomfortable point, though. I know that some people want to draw a big red line between people who vote Democrat / vote for Obama and people who favor alternatives. But I have some really big questions when I see Mike DeRosa getting it so totally wrong about the constitutional convention, or Ralph Nader getting press because he is trying to get into the Guiness Book of World Records for giving more consecutive political speeches than any other candidate for office, or both Nader and Brian Moore of the Socialist Party utterly failing to address the issue of racism in this election.
It makes me wonder why we think that working people in this country would want to vote for third party candidates . . . what would make them feel not only that these alternatives make sense but also that the people presenting these alternatives have earned working peoples' votes.
