From Transsistahs & Transbrothas Donations Needed
This just in to QWB this AM. Please help if you can.
The balance for Duanna Johnson’s funeral is $1195 and the funeral home is requiring Mrs. Skinner (Duanna’s mother) to pay it by tomorrow (11/14). The cost is a hardship, so we are asking anyone who can to donate. Please send any donations to:
N.J. Ford and Sons Funeral Home
12 S Parkway W
Memphis, TN 38109
If you want any clarification from N.J. Ford, here is their contact number: (901) 948-7755.
Please forward this to anyone and everyone! Thanks!

Sorry for my first post to be so depressing, but this has to get out to as many people as possible.
Duanna Johnson, a trans woman who was beaten by two Memphis police officers back in February, was found murdered the night before last. This was shortly after signing the papers to file a lawsuit against MPD and the two officers involved, both of whom were fired in the wake of the bad publicity surrounding the MPD, which was not until late summer after the now-infamous beating video was leaked to the media. She was also helping with a federal investigation involving the MPD. While her courage sparked the local movement to stop police profiling and brutality against trans women of color, her death will not stop community scrutiny of the MPD, nor will it silence the multitude of voices condemning its policies and bigotry. It is interesting that director Godwin has not yet charged the two criminally and has been more interested in finding out who leaked the video and charging them with interfering with an investigation.

Perpetual Transition, the local trans social/support group, will be holding Transgender Day of Remembrance at Tom Lee Park at 4 pm, for those who are in or near the area. This year will have a special significance locally and because of that we will especially be remembering Dre’Ona Blake, Tiffany Berry, Ebony Whitaker, and Duanna Johnson. We are also working on collecting donations so that she may have a church funeral.
