Toward the Queerest Insurrection
In from Bash Back News:
A clandestine group of Criminal Queers from Milwaukee calling themselves the “Mary Nardini Gang” have released a sexy new zine. The zine, or manifesto of sorts, does a (gang) bang-up job discussing issues that radical queers face today and how we can effectively confront heterosexism. You’ll find the zine at http://zinelibrary.info/files/Queerest%20Final_0.pdf. Mary Nardini Gang asks to Print this fucker out and disto it far and wide. I like this line–”The perspective of queers within the heteronormative world is a lens through which we can critique and attack the apparatus of capitalism.” Toward the Queerest Insurrection is printed clandestinely by the Mary Nardini Gang, criminal queers from Milwaukee Wisconsin.

ok i didnt click the link to read the zine yet (altho i will).
but one question thus far: did anyone vom a bit in their mouth when they read this sentence:
"The zine, or manifesto of sorts, does a (gang) bang-up job discussing issues that radical queers face today and how we can effectively confront heterosexism." ??
gang bang?
why are they jokingly referencing rape? am i misreading this?
Phyllis, yes a bit. I know that in some circles the term now is used to refer to consensual group play, but I do think that a comradely suggestion that the term is inappropriate in this context is warranted. I suspect that we aren't the only ones to have had this reaction.
i mean i know who wrote this and they were definitely not jokingly referencing rape. i wasn't aware/haven't heard that term as referencing an implicitly non-consensual act, i think it's just a case of having different definitions of the term
Since they are a gang and let me tell you the Mary Nardini Gang did a bang up job with their zine I think it is just a matter of a different definition. I did have a bit of trouble with it at first but then saw it that way. Thanks for bringing this out Phyllis.
Anyway check out their zine. Wonderful folks, it is what QWB has been preaching for a long time. Will print out the zine and pass it around at our next get together. To all the young people in bash back thanks, you bring a refreshing wind to the movement. Yours in liberation!
yeah…thas what some other folx said that i talked to about it.
i dunno tho- im usually a fan of reclaiming words/terms…but im not so comfortable with this one.
I think the person seeking to reclaim the word needs to be the person who previously was the object of it.
If for some reason that I can't presently imagine, rape survivors decided that they needed/wanted to reclaim the word "gangbang," they'd be within their rights. That doesn't seem to be the case here. And, again, I think we agree that we are talking about a mild criticism here. No one's claiming that the 'zine's editors' use of the term means that they objectively support sexual violence . . . just that it was a poor choice of words.
