August 11th 2008 - One Year Since Vicious Attack On IWW Solidarity Picket In N. Providence, RI
On August 11 2007, while marching in solidarity with our union
sisters and brothers of the Industrial Workers of the world (IWW) 460/640
campaign in NYC, the Providence, RI IWW branch was attacked by the out of
control North Providence Police force. During the attack Providence IWW
member Alexandra Svoboda was brutally maimed by officers of the NPPD and
arrested. Jason Friedmutter, also of the Providence IWW branch was
arrested as well. Alex has faced a long road to recovery that she is still
on. Alex and Jason both face dubious criminal charges that the City of
North Providence has drummed up in order to thwart Alex from receiving
justice and to protect their violent, inexperienced police force.
Included in this article is a brief, but all encompassing account of
August 11, ‘07, Alex’s injuries and recovery, Alex and Jason’s legal
status at the time of this writing.

When I saw the Police Car I was terrified.
New Haven, Conn. –This article is from www.deletetheborder.org. A summary as written: When Abel Sanchez went to check on his brother-in-law, he was issued a ticket for interfering with a police officer. When he left police custody, he needed to go to a hospital, according to a civil rights complaint filed in federal court Monday. The affidavit alleges Sanchez was shoved to the ground, punched, kicked, handcuffed, and Maced in the back of a squad car by patrol officer Dennis O’Connell, before being taken to a warehouse and cleaned up by other cops. South African anarchist group denounces homophobic murder
We, Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front (ZACF), were recently shocked to hear
about another homophobic murder in Johannesburg and extend our sympathy and
solidarity to the LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex)
community of South Africa, that has had to suffer from oppression and
discrimination so often within a short period of time. The murder of drag
queen Daisy Dube is yet another horrible chauvinistic murder and adds to the
escalating number of people killed in homophobic violence in South Africa in
recent times, including 10 lesbians killed since just 2006. [Read more →]

We Told Them Once, We Told Them Twice!
“Over and Over again we told them, and they still don’t want to listen” my friend Claude Holcomb told me. “I guess they don’t get it”, I responded. Claude is the founder of ADAPT CT. whose site can be found here. ADAPT has been working for 7 months now in trying to get the city of Hartford and the Hartford Public Library to fix a big mistake. The city of Hartford built a beautiful addition to the public library. Everything is spanking clean and shiny and up to the minuet with the latest technology. They even put in a fine new ramp to get from street level up to the entrance but guess what? They forgot to make the doors accessible for people in wheel chairs. No button. No automatic door opener. Claude told me that in researching this the cost of a button and automatic door is around $2,000 dollars. Not very much at all. The city says that they can’t put a button because the door is glass. Well I don’t where they have been as many doors with a button are made of glass. In fact where I work we have them. But the thing that makes us the maddest is being told to use the back door. “Go around to the back, that’s accessible.” Well, let me say this isn’t 1952. To say something like that is rather insulting. I wonder what it feels like to go up the beautiful ramp in your chair and then to be turned around at the door and told to go to the back. About three weeks ago I went down to Constituent Services and talked to a Sue Mc Mullen in the office. She told me that she was waiting to hear from corporation council on what the ADA law says and then could tell me how the city would proceed. Today I put another call in to her. She seemed to talk a good round and round talk, telling me what she thought I would want to hear. At one point she said, that it is only a few people who were complaining. Today May 13 I sent out a e-mail to some of my activist friends in the community about this matter. I have included it in this article. I will update this as more information comes in. All are welcomed to come to the meeting on May 23rd at 4:30 pm. The meeting will be held at 24 Park Place which is Park Place Towers, the 2nd building from the street.

They burned our books May 10, 1933.
On May 10th 1933 Nazis and university students in 33 towns across Germany burned books that they considered to be “un-German” In Berlin over 40,000 people gathered to hear Joseph Goebbels the German Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda as thousands of books burned in Opera Square. This event was titled, “Action Against the un-German Spirit.”
On May 6, 1933 trucks pulled up to the doors of Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute for Sexual Science in Berlin . Hundreds of students and Nazis smashed open the doors of the institute and marched into the building to the strains of a brass band. They ransacked the premises and removed books from the library. Later truckloads of storm trooper arrived to finish carting away books and on May 10 these books along with a bust of Hirschfeld, books by Jewish authors and others considered degenerate were burned.

Rally AGAINST 3-STRIKES Legislation
Black Low and Clean Slate Committee are holding a joint press conference and educational forum on the critical importance of alternatives to incarceration and community reintegration.
…The proposed 3-strikes legislation is based on the Washington state model. According to the Sentencing Cuidelines Commission in Washington, although the law was intended to lock up the stte’s worst criminals, results show that blacks are given life sentences at a much higher rate than whites. he Sentencing Guidelines Commission in Washington report shows that blacks make up 3% of the state population, but 37% of the state’s three strike lifers.

The Police and 475 Kent Ave. Williamsburg, NY
From James Wagner
January 27,2008
“Whatever the bureaucratic, commercial or political story which lies behind the human tragedy of New York City’s dreadful and totally irresponsible eviction of over 200 men, women, children and their pets from their homes in the darkness nine days ago on one of the coldest nights of the year, if this doesn’t radicalize New Yorkers, we deserve whatever we get.”
“But there is no acceptable outcome to this particular tale other than the quick return of these people and a proper accounting of the official malfeasance which resulted in their removal in the first place.”

Dec. 20: Police attack New Orleans housing protesters
New Orleans City Council incites brutal police attacks and tear-gassing of public housing tenants and their allies
Today, Dec. 20, in the City Council chambers in New Orleans, public housing tenants and their allies gathered to exercise their democratic right to speak against the vote to demolish their homes.
The city council’s response was to call in the city council security, the NOLA (New Orleans, LA) swat teams and police force to forcibly remove, arrest, beat, drag, brutalize and tear-gas those who wanted the to express their opposition to the loss of stable housing stock.
An elderly woman with a cane was seen being dragged across the city council parking lot by the police. Media persons, tenants and community supporters were tear-gassed at rapid fire by an over zealous NOLA woman cop as if she was on the battle field in Iraq.

Chase the Pope off the Planet
First let me make on thing very clear. I do not care for any religious leaders or organized religion and don’t give a rats pa-tooey if they are liberal or conservative. But that old thing that resides in Rome looking half crazed really gets my goat. Now I love peace as much as everyone else in fact most of my adult life has centered around working for peace. During the Vietnam days I was a conscientious objector even if the draft board tried to convince me that Lutherans were not pacifists. (Oh those outsiders telling a person who they are.) I have been arrested in many a demo and could go on and on but what the heck I don’t need to go on and on putting my credentials out there like the wash on a clothes line. I just am who I am and what I am.
