Homophobia lyrics
Up behind the Bus-stop in the toilets off the streets

From the boy who got his head kicked in a night or two before [Read more →]

John Kelly, artist, dancer and actor will be appearing at Real Art Ways in one of his best know performance art pieces, “Paved Paradise.” The New York Times says of Kelly’s performance, “John Kelly doesn’t imitate Joni Mitchell, he channels her.” Kelly began performing Mitchell in 1985 at Wigstock, the wonderful drag extravganazas held in the East Village. Music Series/ There is power in the union, Billy Bragg
In Celebration with the workers at the Republic Windows and Door Plant.
As the Local 1110 leaders characterized the settlement, “We fought to make them pay what they owe us, and we won.”
This is truly a historic victory for workers in the United States.

Eve of Destruction
Remix of Barry McGuire’s 1965 song written by P.F. Sloan
Though the world is on a high due to the Obama phenomenon, we need to slap ourselves back to the reality of the world around us. Eve of Destruction was written many years ago when we lived under the daily cloud of a pending nuclear holocaust and this remix attempts to reframe it to today’s current and impending dooms. I fear we as a global society are still in trauma from the Bush Shock Doctrine and are blinded in placing our hopes for a better day in a politician.
To get the beat and concept listen to the original song since i can’t sing for shit

Eve of Destruction
The world it tis exploding,
Violence flaring, financial meltdown imploding,
Racism unsparing, class warfare unloading,
Humanity uncaring, foreclosures a’blowing,
Capitalists raping and profit sharing, politicians crowing;
This here civilization is old enough to know better, yet not willing for changing,
It proclaims peace through democracy, but what’s that imperialism this here state’s a totin’,
Even the New Orleans Delta has bodies a’floatin,
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction.
Don’t you understand what we’re trying to say?
Can’t you see the fear that we’re feeling today?
Can’t you see the hate and greed that just won’t go away?
Can’t you see the injustice and immorality that is sold as a better way?
Can’t you see the people whose lives are destroyed because the system is corrupt in so many ways?

Music Series/Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)
“Deportee, Plane Wreck at Los Gatos,” written by Woody Guthrie in 1948 is a tribute to a group of “nameless deportees” killed in a plane crash in California. The victims were “illegal” Mexican immigrants being flown to the US by a fruit company as cheap labor. In the newspaper accounts none of the victims names were given but the workers were referred to only as deportees. In contrast the flight crew and security guard were named in the papers. Those of us in the immigration rights movement can continue to honor the dead of this plane crash by speaking up in defense of the immigrant workers of today by demanding that ICE cease their operations and that the rulers of this country stop their attempts to use immigration as a wedge to divide workers.
The opening lines of the song refer to the practice of the government at that time which paid farmers to destroy their crops in order to keep farm production and prices high. One of the first programs in 1933 was the concept of paying farmers, not to farm, thus reducing supply and raising prices so farmers could afford to stay in business. People were paid not to plant, paid to dump milk, paid to slaughter pigs and destroy the pork, and of course paid to dump citrus crops as well.. Derick R. Larson. I wonder couldn’t that food have been used to feed the people who were out of work and lining up for a bowl of soup. [Read more →]

I Come And Stand At Every Door/ Music Series
This song is a loose translation by Jeanette Turner, of the anti-war poem Kiz Cocugu (The Little Girl) by Turkey’s most important modern poet, Nazim Hikmet 1901-1963, who was persecuted and imprisoned for his outspoken Marxist views. The story is told by the ghost of a seven-year old girl, who died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. It was recorded by Pete Seeger in 1962, using the tune of “The Great Silkie”. This version is by the Byrds.
I come and stand at every door
But no one hears my silent tread
I knock and yet remain unseen
For I am dead, for I am dead.
I’m only seven although I died
In Hiroshima long ago
I’m seven now as I was then
When children die they do not grow.
My hair was scorched by swirling flame
My eyes grew dim, my eyes grew blind
Death came and turned my bones to dust
And that was scattered by the wind.
I need no fruit, I need no rice
I need no sweet, nor even bread
I ask for nothing for myself
For I am dead, for I am dead.
All that I ask is that for peace
You fight today, you fight today
So that the children of this world
May live and grow and laugh and play.

**OUR FABULOUS YOUTH**
I have always believed that queers are some of the most creative people on the planet. It has been proven over and over again through out history that no matter what the straight population and those in control of the works have tried to do, we as queer artists still shine through. A video that I found today proves this point. ALL POWER TO OUR QUEER YOUTH. Take a look at Homo A Go Go, check out some of the links listed and be proud of our people. Homo A Go Go is a queer DIY/independent music, film, art, performance and activism festival. It is a program of the non-profit Queer Arts in Action. Their next festival is July 29-August 2, 2009 in San Francisco. Visit them at www.homoagogo.com, www.myspace.com/homoagogo, Facebook: www.facebook.com/pages/HOMO-A. Dyke Lite: Chapstick “Lesbians” (and the women who don’t love them)
A caption from an article about the musician describes “pop songs with Perry cast as a sunnier Avril.” The comparison of Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry is right on target–both are poseurs. Avril has–in pop culture–conned younger generations into believing that dark eyeliner and angst define punk, and Katy’s current song (with a ripped off title) “I Kissed a Girl” is promoting pseudo-lesbianism as the real thing.
The song lyrics in question:
This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It’s not what, I’m used to
Just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you
Caught my attentionI kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
